Our History
The Founding of the Self Reliance Empowerment Foundation (SREF)
The Self Reliance Empowerment Foundation (SREF) was established by Edward Nortei Nortey, driven by a deep desire to provide support and opportunities for those struggling with life’s challenges. Inspired by the experiences of returned missionaries, Edward recognized that many face difficulties transitioning back into society after their missionary service. This challenge sparked the creation of SREF in 2023, with the mission to empower these individuals and others in need, such as street children and orphans who often lack access to basic necessities.

SREF EmpowerFuture IS designed to equip young adults in Africa with job-ready degrees through the BYU Pathway Worldwide Program.

This special Christmas program is more than just a celebration—it’s a beacon of hope for vulnerable children and individuals living in extreme poverty.

Charitxa is a nonprofit environmental organization and fiscal sponsor to more than seventy-five projects working in the areas of conservation, energy and climate, women’s environmental leadership, international and Indigenous communities, sustainability and community resilience, and more.
